SOBER WARNING

The tone of Luke 21 is judgment and warning. The news from the wrong vantage point is frightening and gloomy. Yet, Jesus looked at life with a different perspective. He teaches his disciples to do so as well. Outlook determines outcome. Every time. The glitz and glamour of this world will vie for focus (v5). It takes patience to see life and events from the perspective of the Messiah (v19). Crisis and calamity draws attention away from reality (v11,20,25,34). Those listening to Jesus are perplexed as readers today (v7). Like the fig tree and season, Jesus observes, these events are markers pointing to a change in spiritual season (v29-33). For Christ’s followers, testing is a time for testimony (v13-14). The weight of testimony requires fervent prayer & spiritual stamina (v35-36). Without it disciples will certainly lose heart and give up. A constant focus on Christ and his kingdom will develop the disciple.
