GREATNESS IN THE DARKNESS

The focus now shifts from the teachings of Jesus to his trial. Take note of the satanic influence at the outset (v3). The crucifixion is an act in the cosmic struggle; yet, Jesus is greater and stronger. As he plans to participate in Passover with his closest friends, the world and devil are planning his downfall and death. It may seem as though events and circumstances are out of his control. They are not. We see him directing the finest details of his final moments. The room (v7-13). The meal (v14-30). When everything could spin out of control, Jesus stops for a passionate conversation with the Father (v39-46). His darkest day like every other day before is marked by great compassion and long suffering. Knowing his friends would betray him and the world would accuse him, Jesus did not back down. He would give until he had nothing more to give. He laid down his life as the greatest lamb. He would do what no other lamb could do (v7). He would save his people once & for all (v20).
