Why Pink Out?

This Sunday I’m asking everyone to wear pink in support of our family and friends who have fought cancer and really other debilitating, life-threatening diseases.

We are commanded to rejoice with one another. Laugh with one another. Celebrate with one another. And to weep with one another. That can be hard.

Words come slowly and often awkwardly. We don’t know what to say. We want to say it well. So we say nothing. What can we do?

There is power in presence. John tells us that the Son of God put on flesh and dwelt among us. The literal picture is graphic. He pitched a tent and spent time with us. Those days were filled with grace, truth, kindness, and yes, tears. John 11.35 says, ‘Jesus wept.’

Disease reminds us everyday of the Fall. Creation groans for redemption. Christ groaned upon the tree and endured humanity’s curse. Therefore, disease and death will not win. That’s the gospel hope. More than what doctors, support groups, and medicine can provide. This hope lives. Because he lives, we can face tomorrow even in suffering.

Can I count on you to wear pink this Sunday? Let’s be present and show our love. (You can pick up your pink FMFB shirt today for Sunday. We have them!)
