Church? Why Bother?!
A well-known Christian author attempted to answer the question. As you travel the streets of our community and visit with folks in stores do you hear this popular refrain? ‘I’m spiritual but not religious. I don’t believe in organized religion.’ Our friends, coworkers, neighbors, and sadly, family members are opting out of the local church altogether. Is it important?
Yes, we engage with God together. Worship is not merely music and singing. We encounter the living God in worship. He has drawn near to us in his Son by the Spirit. We can know God.
Yes, we are discipled to make disciples. The heart of Christian worship is the Word of God. Every message centers on who Christ is and what he has done. The Word produces disciples. The mission of the church has not changed in 2000 years. We make disciples who make disciples.
Yes, we share life together. You may have noticed the new Information area in the back of the Worship Center. The church unanimously affirmed the decision to set apart a portion of the room for connections and fellowship. Coleman is encouraging small group leaders to dismiss their groups by 10.15a so that we can welcome our guests well. The Info area is a great place to start intentionally connecting with others.
Yes, we go and tell together. Look at the book of Acts. As the church was scattered the Word increased and the disciples multiplied. One simple reason. They didn’t stop telling what Christ had done. It’s remarkable how encouraging it is to hear and share your simple story.
This is the church. Let’s bother and become all that God designed us to be. Let’s bother and bless the Timber Creek community together. It takes all of us together. Are you in?
