Temptation & the Word of God
I challenge you to dive into Luke 4 this week for our message on Sunday. (Remember our small groups are one week behind the message.) Read a portion each day and linger over the picture of Jesus. The major focus is the first encounter between Jesus & our adversary. Salvation is a cosmic battle between good and evil. Yet, always remember this. It’s not a fair fight. Satan is not equal to God; he is a dependent creature. Next, watch how scripture supports the entire story. Jesus keeps coming back to the Message. We do well to follow his example.
Use these questions to read, reflect, and live out Luke 4 this week:
Luke 4v1-13
How does it make you feel that Jesus was tempted? Does it help you identify with Him more?
Luke 4v14-22
Would you be able to use God’s Word in your conversations with those around you in order to explain your purpose in life and God’s plan for others?
Luke 4v23-30
How do the people respond to the Word and to Jesus? How are we responding to the word as it is preached among us?
Luke 4v31-41
How do Christ’s actions here demonstrate the reality of the filling of the Spirit (v1)?
Luke 4v42-44
What does Jesus do in verse 42? What does his example teach us?
