Deacons are above reproach servants. In Acts 6, church leaders directed the church to call out men who were full of faith, the Spirit, & of grace. These servants would come alongside other members of the body who needed needed care. Their ministry creates space for the pastor to focus on prayer & ministry of the Word.

Covenant Members are invited to nominate men to the ministry of deacon. A deacon is an above reproach servant who is actively involved in the life of Flower Mound First Baptist Church. An interview team composed of or appointed by the pastor, deacon chairman and deacon vice-chairman will tabulate the nominations and determine the top candidates. They will then interview each qualified candidate, beginning with the one receiving the most nominations and continuing until the needed number of deacons is obtained. The purpose of the interview is to determine: (1) that the candidate meets all qualifications to serve as deacon; (2) that the candidate’s doctrine is compatible with the church’s statement of faith; and (3) that the candidate is willing to serve. After obtaining the needed number of deacons, the interview team will present to the church a motion that they be elected and ordained (if not previously ordained).

Deacon Activities

FM Deacons are above reproach servants who :

  • SHOW UP : Deacons are expected to lead by example. That means showing up when the FM family gathers together for various activities, but most especially weekly worship & deacon prayer gatherings. A FM Deacon is also actively involved in a small group where he can mature as a faithful disciple.
  • STAND UP : Deacons are expected to represent our church in the community and to reflect the values of our church and the Lord Jesus Christ. They should be men who support and assist in making the vision of our church a reality.
  • KEEP UP : FM Deacons have been set apart because of their active service. Therefore, it is expected that they will continue in that same service. Additionally, FM Deacons oversee the security of the FM family – both the buildings & weekly offerings.
  • PRAY UP : FM Deacons are expected to be men of prayer. This means that they should be praying for their families, the church, and the community on a regular basis.
  • FILL UP : FM Deacons follow the model of the earliest deacons in Acts 6. Through prayer, worship, & the Word, FM Deacons are filled with the Spirit, grace, faith, & knowledge. Then – and only then – can they understand what the Lord is calling them to do & where He is leading his church.
